The Towns of Benson, Hope and Bleeker
Benson is the first town you come to in Hamilton County, as you go north on NY Route 30 past Northville & Northampton. It is a small town with just one main road, Benson Road or Country Road #6. It is very hilly, woodsy and charming. It boasts Lapland Lakes Cross Country Ski Center as well as it's the true start of the Northville-Lake Placid Hiking Trail. It is 83.2 square miles large but has less than 200 full time residents. It has a couple of lakes, Silver Lake and Woods Lake. But only Wood Lake is easily accessible.
Hope is the next town north of Benson where Route 30 hugs the Sacandaga River. Hope is approximately 41 square miles large with a full time, year round population of less than 400. Besides Sacandaga River, there is also Stony Creek, Middle and Murphy Lakes and Hope Falls. So there is no shortage of water there.
